Microsoft Purview Apps

Microsoft Purview automates data discovery by providing data scanning and classification as a service to resources across your data assets. Metadata and descriptions of discovered data assets are integrated into a holistic map of your data assets. There are also purpose-built apps that create environments for data discovery, access management, and insights into your data landscape.

Microsoft Purview Data Map

Microsoft Purview Data Map provides the foundation for data discovery and effective data governance. Microsoft Purview Data Map is a cloudnative PaaS service that captures enterprise data metadata in analytics and operating systems – both on-premises and in the cloud. With its built-in automated review and classification system, Microsoft Purview Data Map is automatically kept up to date. Business users can configure and use the Microsoft Purview Data Map service through an intuitive user interface, and developers can interact with Data Map programmatically using open source-based Apache Atlas 2.2 APIs. Microsoft Purview Data Map supports the Microsoft Purview Data Catalog and Microsoft Purview Data Estate Insights with unified user functionality in the Microsoft Purview Governance Portal.

Microsoft Purview Data Catalog

Microsoft Purview’s Data Catalog service enables business and technical users to quickly and easily find relevant data. A search function is available with filters based on narrowing options such as glossary terms, classifications, confidentiality designations, and more. For subject matter experts, data stewards, and data officers, Microsoft Purview’s Data Catalog service offers data curation features such as enterprise glossary management and the ability to automate tagging of data resources with glossary terms. Data consumers and producers can also visually trace the origin of data resources from local operating systems through ETL processes and modeling, storage, and analytics systems such as Power BI.

Microsoft Purview Data Estate Insights

Microsoft Purview’s Data Estate Insights enables chief data officers and other governance stakeholders* to view an overview of their data estate and gain actionable insights into governance gaps that can then be addressed by the service itself.

Microsoft Purview Data Sharing

Microsoft Purview Data Sharing enables organizations to securely share data both within the organization and across organizations with business partners and customers. You can share or receive data with just a few clicks. Data providers can centrally manage and monitor sharing relationships and revoke a share at any time. Data consumers can access received data with their own analytics tools and gain insights from data.
